High Tea Fashion Show Helps Raise Funds for Local Seniors
|
(Roswell) -- Senior Services North Fulton (SSNF) held a successful Champagne and High Tea Fashion Show, on November 11th, in support of the Meals on Wheels program for North Fulton senior citizens. Dozens of business and community leaders helped lend their support to the event, including Dorothy Benson, the first board chair for Sandy Springs North Fulton, Ivan Figueroa, City Councilman for Johns Creek, Kathy Field, Director of Community Development for Roswell, and Karen Meinzen McEnerny, Sandy Springs City Council.
The white linens and gorgeous floral arrangements by Bella Flora helped transform the auditorium of the Dorothy C. Benson Multipurpose Complex for this lovely ladies afternoon event. Mickey Dodge, the former Ms. Senior Savannah and Ms. Vidalia Onion once again offered her humor and stage presence to support SSNF, by serving as MC for the event. A Royal Affair Café catered a scrumptious array of finger sandwiches, lemon tartlettes, chocolate dipped strawberries and their signature chocolate bark with pistachio nuts. SSNF Board members Mark Roberson and Ivan Figueroa along with Ed Field (husband of board member, Kathy Field), donned tuxedos to serve champagne.
Fashions presented by e.k. taylor, Capricious and Fresh Produce offered a range of wearable and unique looks that appealed to everyone! The fashion highlights for this season were modeled by Patti Mitchell, Chelsea and Taylor Santucci, Delaney Mitchell, Claire Bernot, Mary Bostwick, Nancy Vance, June Pafundi ,Beth Roberson, Aubrey Ward, Margaret Snoddy, Linda Scholfield, Lee Mohler and Dorothy Benson.
Before the fashion show, guests enjoyed some shopping at display tables hosted by Cheryl Sykes of Jafra Cosmetics, Neva Colony, owner of Colony Services, and silver jewelry designed by Compelling Creations. A portion of each purchase amount was donated by each retailer, to SSNF.
All services provided by SSNF to area seniors are provided without regard to ability to pay. |

On April 19th, almost 200 guests, including Mayor Eva Galambos, Fulton County Commissioner Lynn Riley and Johns Creek City Councilman, Ivan Figueroa, came together to support Senior Services North Fulton and to honor the founding board President of the agency, and long time community advocate, Dot Benson. The evening was the culmination of months of hard work by board member and event chair, Bonnie Sammons and her team of volunteers and is was a true celebration of seniors and their contribution to our community. The multi-purpose room of the Benson Center was transformed into a colorful and fun venue within which the party goers enjoyed the culinary highlights of 10 local restaurants, exciting silent and live auction activity and seasonal brews from 5 Seasons Brewery.
Dot Benson kicked things off with a recap of the work she and others had undertaken to locate, purchase and establish the first Senior Center of its kind, the Neighborhood Senior Center on Warsaw Road in Roswell. As Dot characterized it, “seniors were tired of being put in the basement for activities. We wanted to come out into the daylight!” After that first step, and with Dot’s leadership, seniors have since been able to enjoy even more options, including the state of the art Dorothy C. Benson Multipurpose Senior Complex. Since 1991, support for seniors has definitely become more of a priority, thanks to the advocacy of Dot and others. But there is still much to be done, which is why non-profit organizations, like Senior Services North Fulton, are so vitally important. With Dot’s encouragement and the talent and humor of Auctioneer Wayne Carrel, the guests bid aggressively on some unique and special auction items. In the end, the event helped raise over $75,000 for SSNF.
Many thanks to the featured restaurants and corporate sponsors, highlighted below. Their participation and support of seniors helped ensure the success of this event.
